GREEN IDEAS IN ACTION
The San Francisco Green Film Festival (SFGFF) is the West Coast’s leading destination for groundbreaking and compelling films on the urgent environmental issues of our time. As global temperatures skyrocket and media coverage of climate change vanishes, our mission is to educate and connect communities through forward-thinking programs of environmental films and discussions.
Launched in 2011, SFGFF presents an annual film festival each Spring as well as year-round community screenings and events in the San Francisco Bay Area. Themes at the 2013 Festival ranged from climate change to food and agriculture, energy, water, green chemistry, housing, and art in the environment. The Festival’s Closing Night celebrations, June 5, 2013, took place on United Nations’ World Environment Day.
SFGFF brings critical and contemporary environmental issues to local audiences and, in the process, highlights the vital work of our many partners, including local businesses, schools, and non-profit organizations. Since 2011, we’ve partnered with over 50 community organizations, produced over 90 programs with 225 films, and inspired over 8,000 attendees.
THE FIRST THREE YEARS
YEAR-ROUND COMMUNITY PROGRAM
In addition to the annual film festival, SFGFF presents year-round screenings and discussions – many for free to the general public. We present regular monthly screenings with GreenStacks at the San Francisco Public Library Main Branch, and other recent co-presents include the David Brower Center, SPUR, Nightlife at the California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco International Film Festival, and the Green Festival.
In addition, we take films into local schools and businesses. Contact us to find out how we can engage your students or employees in this program.
