JUST DO IT – A TALE OF MODERN-DAY OUTLAWS
UK, 2011, 90 mins
USA Sneak Preview. In person: Emily James, Director; Laura Shacham, Assistant Producer; Jamie Henn, Co-Founder and Communications Director, 350.org
Green Film Fest-goers will be among the first in the USA to get a sneak preview of Just Do It, a film that lifts the lid on climate activism and the daring troublemakers who have crossed the line to become modern-day outlaws.
In 2009, director Emily James was given access to a group of environmental activists seeking results through direct action campaigns throughout England. What resulted was a film that gives you a unique look into the world of illegal activism through animated, endearing characters and their interviews, all with the same goals in their hearts – to fight capitalism and raise awareness about the environment.
Focusing on different groups that concentrate on building awareness regarding violated environmental rights and legislation, Just Do It will strike a chord with any Occupy Wall Street movement supporters and followers. This film is an inside look at the planning of occupations and direct action movements, including all of the illegal risks involved in its success and potential failures. Main characters are thoughtful and eloquent in their interviews and the documentary really shows the struggle that comes with standing against capitalistic-fueled enterprises wanting nothing standing in the way of their profit. ~ Carola Di Poi
